Like many of my colleagues, I have become increasingly concerned about the direction AMAPCEO is taking. As we see other unions taking a stand, we watched AMAPCEO spend our money on a province wide "dog and pony show" to convince us to cave in. Decide in haste, repent at leisure. And we will have lots of time to repent our rolled back pay as we sit at our desks for an additional 9.5 days in 2013, at the same pay.
Now that we have the attention of 2,146 members, I believe the most useful thing I can do, as an active member of my chapter, my AMERC and a founding member of my union, is to educate those who are now aroused to action, but lack information about how to take action.
As a founding member of AMAPCEO, a long-time activist and dedicated workplace representative, I believe AMAPCEO has distanced itself from its members and effectively, lost its way. This did not happen overnight or recently. As early as 1998 I proposed, on behalf of the MAH CHAPTER, a resolution at the Annual Delegates Conference to split the political function of AMAPCEO (the presidency) from the administrative function. Fourteen years later, the Constitution Committee is recommending such a constitutional amendment.
This blog is dedicated to bringing information to you, the 2,146 members who bravely voted "no" to the Collective Agreement.

DeleteWe heard many times that this contract benefited the majority of Amapceo members. That remains to be seen next year when folks realize why the employer wanted it. However, it was said that a minority of members were "disadvantaged."
I must echo the words of my colleagure who cited the quotation: If the union is a democracy, then its measure must be in how it treats its minorities.
A lot of us are looking for next steps.
